All around the world, high school students are adolescents between the ages of 14-18 years, students whose neurodevelopmental status is very much still “in process.” And yet, too many of these adolescents are expected to perform every day in ways that suggest that their brains have already reached adulthood. This workshop takes a “deep dive” in six critically important neurodevelopmental discoveries – thanks to the wonders of neuroimaging – that make it increasingly inappropriate, if not irresponsible, for educators NOT to teach and coach their adolescent students in ways that respect the students’ developmental integrity.
