Innovation and Assessment in the Modern Classroom – Engaging Students Through Emerging Technology

Presenter: Myron Dueck

9:00 am - 9:45 am

Conference Workshop

Modern educators can utilize innovation and engaging activities to engineer Authentic Learning Experiences (ALE) for our students. Unfortunately, experienced educators often feel uncomfortable with the ‘new’ because they have come to rely on traditional methods that seem safe, trusted and familiar. New teachers may feel pressure to conform and stick with the status quo.

As the technological landscape continues to evolve, perhaps more important than using the latest app or digital technology nugget, is rather that we look for elements consistent with Authentic Learning Experiences… in whatever form they appear. The challenge inherit in trying new things is the question of assessment. In this session, the elements of ALE will be identified by examining an array of examples, and emerging technologies will be explored as well. With each example, participants will examine ways that assessment can keep pace with these innovative and engaging activities.
