Community and Relationships: Using Collaborative Project Work to Learn Together

Presenter: Allison Bryan Tracy Rops Nikki Hume

Teacher Presenters

How do we create and sustain a culture of community in the classroom? The presenters will use three examples of Reggio-Inspired learning to share how teachers and young learners facilitate emergent and collaborative project work. Learners made collaborative decisions, shared ideas, and participated in documenting learning.

Through these experiences, children in Kindergarten discovered that they are part of a community that works, learns, and plays together. Teachers and learners established agreements for working together, made authentic connections and built relationships that created a secure learning community.

In this workshop, the presenters will share how mapping, storytelling and building served as provocations for ongoing project work in Kindergarten. They will show how collaboration, reflection and re-inviting learning experiences are key to facilitating emergent project work.
