Can conceptual learning, approaches to learning, and language targets be imbedded in a scaffold? Yes - when two or more heads are working together. This workshop will present the “co-journey” of an EAL facilitator and core science teacher in finding scaffolds that encourage student learning through tools that support academic language, the core course subject material and meta-cognitive approaches.

We aim to demonstrate how unit planners can be used to devise initial scaffolds. In addition we aim to share practical strategies about how scaffolds can be disseminated in the classroom. Throughout, real samples of student work will be shown including some of their personal reactions to this work.
