Augmented & Virtual Reality: A Low-barrier, Low-cost Workflow for Engaging Education

Presenter: Clint Carlson

Teacher Presenters

Virtual reality in education is truly, finally here for practical use. And with it, you can enable powerful creation environments and demonstration of learning in ways never available before. This session will walk through a workflow available to anyone to ensure VR integration into education is about creation and agency rather than passive engagement. Bring just your laptop and phone (optional). Together we’ll explore how students can create 3D models to view and walk around them in VR.

Each participant will get hands-on experience 3D modeling an individual building of a class-sourced, collaborative city. Together we will walk down the streets we have built. Through VR, educators can provide a safe, engaging environment where students learn through exploration, mistakes, and hands-on, personal experimentation. Educators separated by physical distance also have an opportunity to teach collectively by joining classes in a VR environment. It’s a massive, accessible expansion of the growing maker movement that fosters learning by doing.
