Participants will:
- Affirm student schemas by practicing techniques for tapping into background knowledge.
- Plan ways to support students’ conceptual understandings and develop academic language before, during, and after reading using their four linguistic modes of communication.
Activities
- Multilingual techniques for tapping in and building background: color coded Frayer chart, multilingual word walls, PWIM, List-Group-Label.
- Techniques for embedding support within reading and writing tasks: engineered text, scaffolded writing, dictogloss, sentence frames & starters.
