Building on Multilingual Assets: Purposeful Academic Conversations

Time: March 19, 2020 • 8:30-16:00

In order to build inclusive, language-rich environments, we must be aware of current research, best practices and our own identity. Providing equitable international classrooms where students feel comfortable learning means building on the linguistic, cultural, social and emotional assets of all students.

This session will focus on two key pedagogical issues:
1) shifting from a deficit-based to an asset-based approach to teaching and learning, and
2) creating language-rich inquiry-based classrooms by using language intentionally.

Participants will be guided through a shared language experience, explore WIDA resources and learn about strategies and research to support inquiry and oral discourse with multilingual learners.

Elementary Principals Job-alike

Time: March 19, 2020 • 8:30-16:00

Our day-to-day jobs are all-consuming and can leave little opportunity to reflect and learn from colleagues with similar responsibilities. The Elementary Principals Job-Alike is designed as an opportunity for principals to learn with and from each other about practical aspects of our work with teachers, students, and families.

Topics of particular interest this year include: Reggio-inspired Learning, Alternative Scheduling Options for Elementary Schools, and Feedback to Support Learning. The goal of this time together is to learn about what other CEESA schools are doing in these areas, as well as explore other topics related to the future of learning and ways in which we are supporting learning that engages and challenges everyone in our communities.

Intended Audience: PK – G5 Elementary Principals
