Writing Strategies in the Content Areas: Moving Student Writing from Retelling Knowledge to Transforming It

Presenter: Sylvia Linan-Thompson

9:00 am - 10:00 am

Special Needs Program

Using writing in the content areas to solidify what is learned can contribute to increased reading comprehension, academic language, content learning, and the development of critical thinking. Writing strategies are an ideal tool for supporting students’ writing across genres and developing into writers that transform knowledge by providing an explanation or justifying a position; tasks that require higher order thinking and reflection.

This 90-minute session will share 5 effective writing strategies to improve students’ writing in grades 1-8.

This workshop is part of the Special Needs Certificate Program at the CEESA Conference.
